33 Great Movies to Watch When You’re Sick

When I’m sick (like now), nothing beats a light and entertaining movie. Besides, I can’t read, can’t work, can’t do much of anything. Sometimes I just lie on the sofa, eyes closed, movie on. Here are some of my favorites to watch when I’m feeling under the weather.

Be sure you scroll to the end to check out the foreign films. Romantics Anonymous (Les Émotifs Anonymes) is one of my very favorites.

About a Boy

Benny and Joon

Bridget Jones’s Diary

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Duck Soup

The Emperor’s New Clothes

Such an underrated movie. I can’t even find a trailer for it. But do check it out. This 2001 film, adapted from the novel The Death of Napoleon, is funny, charming, and completely unpredictable. An alternative view of Napoleon’s life after being exiled.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Four Weddings and a Funeral

Groundhog Day

An Ideal Husband

The Importance of Being Ernest

It’s a Wonderful Life

Okay, so it’s not Christmas. Who cares? This movie will remind you that being sick ain’t but nothing.

Little Miss Sunshine

Lost in Translation

Mamma Mia

Mansfield Park

Moonrise Kingdom

Paper Moon

Pride and Prejudice

Be sure you find the 1995 version and run away from the more recent one with Keira Knightely.

Raising Arizona

The Royal Tenenbaums

Shakespeare in Love

Singing in the Rain

Young Frankenstein

If you’re not too sick to read subtitles, consider these foreign films:

Cinema Paradiso

Haute Cuisine

My Life as a Dog

Romantics Anonymous (Les Émotifs Anonymes)

The Women on the 6th Floor (Femmes du 6ème étage)
